In kindergarten, we made bracelets of ten beads. These can be used to show all of the ways to make ten.

World's Largest Animals
In fifth grade, we studied some of the largest animals on earth. We created a graphic of their height or length in a ration of one inch to one foot. We drew ourselves using the same ration.
SLIME
In second grade, we made slime. We learned that it was not a solid, liquid, or gas, but rather something called non-Newtonian fluid. It acts like both a solid and a liquid.
Screaming Balloons
In fourth grade, we created "screaming balloons." By adding a hex nut to a balloon, we learned about centripetal force (center seeking motion) and vibration. When the balloon is swirled, the sound is like that of a scream.

Read all about and then...
Read those newspapers and then please send them to L.E.A.D. We can use them for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) lessons. Thanks!

Berry College Eagles
Last year, we watched the Berry College Eagle Cam. The parent eagles laid two eggs. One hatched, and we were able to see the eaglet grow up and then fly away. This year, the parent eagles are back. The eagle cam is back up and working. On September 11, the eagles were seen sleeping in the nest. Please visit the eagle cam often to keep up to date on their behaviors. We will check it from time to time in LEAD as well.

Fourth Grade - Lava Lamps
Fourth Grade learned about the density of liquids by combining oil and water to create lava lamps. We also discussed how it is a good thing that oil is less dense than water in the case of an oil spill. Lastly, we used alka seltzer tablets to make the lava lamp come "alive." The alka seltzer bubbles of carbon dioxide gas take some of the colored water through the oil to create a lava lamp effect.
Fourth Grade - Science of Sports - Football
Fourth Grade is learning about the physics of football. We measured our "levers" (our arms), our release point (height with arm extended overhead), and then threw outside. We discussed how our arm is a simple machine called a lever with three pivot points (wrist, elbow, and shoulder).

Touch Math
Kindergarten through Second Grade will be learning about touchpoints and how to use them in math this year. First grade created the following numbers to display the placement of the touchpoints.
LEGO Education
Fifth grade has been building the goal kicker. Our challenge was to see what program could kick the ball the farthest.

Water Bottles
In LEAD, we use empty water bottles for many projects. Please bring them to school. There is a box outside of my door for them. Thank you.

Bubbling Into School
We experimented with "Dancing Raisins." When raisins are put in a carbonated drink, then they will rise up on the bubbles. Once they pop, then they will sink. We discussed what buoyancy means.
We created a chemical reaction with vinegar and baking soda. The bi-product of carbon dioxide is what filled the balloon to make it self inflate.
